Watkins Landmark’s January 2022 Newsletter

Hello,

FThis year marks Watkins Landmark’s 18th year since we opened our doors in 2004. When I started the company, this is exactly where I envisioned we would be almost two decades later. Nothing could be further from the truth. No way could I have predicted the trials of the last couple years, nor could I have predicted 2008 through 2010. What I do know, for a fact, is that our endurance through these challenges have made us stronger. Both as a group of individuals and as the Watkins Landmark team.

Our first article in this newsletter is written by Eric Mudge. Watkins Landmark has broken ground and begun working on the foundation for the United Methodist Church of Vista building addition project. WLC has always taken great pride in our large portfolio of faith based projects. The start of COVID 19 brought faith based projects to a halt, we are so grateful to start building facilities of faith again.

Our second article is written by Keagen Fritz , Assistant Superintendent, on the completion of another successful project with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. This represents our 10th tenant improvement project at the “Big A”. We are very grateful for our repeat business at the Angels Stadium. While we say at WLC “Our niche is that we don’t have a niche”, truth be told is we have several. Our sporting facilities niche, professional and amateur, is a niche in which we take great pride.

In our Company Culture section, we will show some of the highlights from our Watkins Landmark’s Annual Christmas Party held at the Califino Tequila Lounge. Califino Tequila is one of the many businesses under the corporate umbrella of the San Diego Socker’s ownership. The Lounge is secluded in a Carlsbad Industrial Park adjacent to the Socker’s corporate office. The space made for one of our most memorable Holiday Parties. It was an open atmosphere with games, tasting bar, and a raffle, as well as great food and beverages.

Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions for our newsletter over the years. We truly try to incorporate the best of your remarks into our periodical. You can always click on my name and email me at Jody James Watkins with any observations or critiques.

Sincerely,

Jody James Watkins

United Methodist Church of Vista Addition Project is Underway

By Eric Mudge, Senior Project Manager

Watkins Landmark Construction kicked off construction on the United Methodist Church of Vista, grading began in early December right when the permit was secured. The site was cleared, the building pad was prepared and certified to make way for obtaining the building permit later in the month. Although the holiday rains slowed some progress, the team successfully completed the rough grading, site demolition, and storm water system. By the end of January, the under slab rough in work will be complete and building foundation installation will be underway.

The Watkins team has successfully completed 95% of the buyout for the project and around 70% of submittals have been processed. Given the ever changing lumber market, the roof trusses have been secured early and stored at the site. The goal is to increase construction momentum and complete building of the addition to the current facility by June of 2022, with the interior improvement work by early July. Our project team consists of Eric Mudge, Senior Project Manager; Robert Veague, Superintendent; Ruben Bravo, Project Engineer and Molly Watson, Project Accountant.

Structural Renovation Project at the Big A, Home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

By Keagen Fritz, Assistant Superintendent

Watkins Landmark Construction has developed into the premier company to build, improve, and maintain beloved spaces. Angels Stadium in Anaheim California is no exception. With millions of fans around the globe, the Angels Team required a precise execution to maintain their brand of greatness. Watkins Landmark is delighted to do just that by completing structural repairs on two stadium pedestrian ramps.

Being the original infrastructure, it was a delicate repair to ensure the timeless beauty of the stadium remained as vibrant as ever. We replaced the original beams with top-of-the-line steel and poured new surrounding concrete. With the ramps back in commission, future seasons will be much easier on both fans and staff alike.

Project Manager, Obhi Dewan, and I found great success within such an esteemed facility. As a team, we were able to handle all challenges and drive the project to be completed ahead of schedule. The Watkins Landmark Construction standard of excellence continues to allow baseballs to keep flying, and fans to keep coming as we slide into 2022. Go Angels!

Culture Section: WLC Annual Company Christmas Party

The WLC Team celebrating the Holidays at Califino Tequila Lounge

Watkins Landmark’s Annual Christmas Party was held at the Califino Tequila Lounge hidden in one of many of Carlsbad’s Industrial Office Complexes. After the cancellation of last year’s Christmas Party due to COVID, our team definitely enjoyed the night out this year! Enjoy the pictures that some of our employees took at the entertaining event!
