I understand that Watkins Landmark Construction is being considered by your church for an upcoming project. I am chairman of the building team at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, and I would like to extend my sincere recommendation. We are currently working with Watkins on the second of two phases of our Campus Master Plan. During the first phase of work on our Hispanic Ministries and Preschool buildings, Watkins displayed their professional ability to complete the project to the highest standards of quality, while meeting both schedule and budget, and keeping open communication with the church building team. It was because of this experience with Watkins that they were unanimously selected by our team for the larger phase two campus renovation.
Phase two consists of building a new children’s ministries building, a new chapel, and a very substantial parking lot and walkway improvements. Watkins is approximately two-thirds complete with the second phase of construction. They have been very professional and have been a pleasure to work with. Despite the challenges of maintaining access to an active campus and the need to shuffle parking to meet our needs for weekend services, Watkins has delivered outstanding service and met all of our expectations.
With any project, and especially for a church, controlling the cost of the project is of paramount importance. I cannot overemphasize the important role that Watkins played in value engineering. Working cooperatively with the architects and project management, they delivered a proposal with value engineering to be incorporated into the project that saved us approximately $750,000. We achieved these savings without taking away from the overall design or quality of the buildings.
